Our programs

Five Pillars. One Vision.

Speak One Voice organises its work around five interconnected pillars. Together they guide how we engage women, youth, faith leaders, families, churches and communities to prevent violence against women and children.

One Vision

  1. Leadership Development
  2. Spiritual Growth
  3. Empowerment
  4. Evidence, Research & Advocacy
  5. Networks & Partnerships

Biblical faith

Speak One Voice’s own diagram of its structure: five pillars, one foundation.

Each pillar represents a different part of the change Speak One Voice seeks to create, and together they form one approach.

Leadership Development

Equipping people to become agents of change.

Speak One Voice develops the capacity of faith leaders, women and grassroots community members to take an active role in preventing and responding to violence against women and children.

The focus is on building confident, informed and committed leaders who can influence their churches, families and communities. Leadership is not limited to formal positions: SOV recognises the capacity of ordinary women and community members to influence those around them.

Key areas

  • Faith leader development
  • Women’s leadership
  • Youth leadership
  • Community leadership
  • Violence prevention and response
  • Advocacy and community action

Delivered through

Community Learning

Community Learning is the method this pillar is delivered through. Facilitators drawn from the communities themselves carry a group through four steps — Do, Look, Think and Plan — working from Speak One Voice’s own Facilitator Toolkit. Because the group reaches its own conclusions and makes its own plans, the people who take part are the ones who go on to lead the change.

What it covers

  • Faith, Religion & Culture
  • Violence Prevention & Response
  • Parenting & Family Wellbeing
  • Survivor Support
  • Trauma & Resilience

Spiritual Growth

Creating space for faith, reflection and transformation.

Speak One Voice promotes respectful, faith-based dialogue within the Church and community around religious, traditional, cultural, economic and social issues that influence relationships and may contribute to violence against women and children.

Through reflection and dialogue, we encourage communities to examine beliefs and practices and build relationships based on love, justice, equality and dignity.

Key areas

  • Faith-based dialogue
  • Reflection on religious teachings
  • Healthy relationships
  • Challenging harmful interpretations and practices
  • Promoting peace, justice and equality

Empowerment

Creating safe spaces where people can heal, rebuild and thrive.

Speak One Voice supports the creation of safe spaces where survivors of abuse can receive care, support and encouragement as they work toward rebuilding their lives.

At the same time, we seek to empower women to become champions for themselves and others, and to participate actively in creating safer families and communities.

Key areas

  • Safe spaces
  • Survivor support
  • Women’s empowerment
  • Peer support
  • Community care
  • Building safer families

Evidence, Research & Advocacy

Turning knowledge into action.

Speak One Voice examines the ways in which religion, culture, policies, regulations and social practices can influence violence against women and children and gender inequality.

Research and learning help inform advocacy for changes that contribute to safer and more equitable families, churches, institutions and communities.

Key areas

  • Community research
  • Gender equity
  • Policy review
  • Advocacy
  • Challenging harmful cultural practices
  • Institutional transformation

Networks & Partnerships

Working together for lasting change.

Speak One Voice recognises that ending violence against women and children cannot be achieved by one organisation alone.

The initiative builds relationships with churches, community organisations, women’s groups, youth, institutions and other like-minded stakeholders to strengthen collective action and extend the reach of violence-prevention efforts.

Key areas

  • Church partnerships
  • Community networks
  • Stakeholder collaboration
  • Women’s groups
  • Youth engagement
  • Joint advocacy and action

Working together

How the five pillars work together

The five pillars are not separate programmes operating in isolation. They work together as a connected pathway for change.

  1. 01Leadership Development

Builds people who can lead change

  2. 02Spiritual Growth

Encourages reflection and challenges harmful beliefs

  3. 03Empowerment

Creates support, safety and opportunities for transformation

  4. 04Evidence, Research & Advocacy

Uses learning to influence practices, policies and institutions

  5. 05Networks & Partnerships

Connects people and organisations to strengthen collective action

Stronger individuals → healthier relationships → safer families → stronger communities

Our approach in action

Do, Look, Think, Plan

The five pillars are supported by an experiential learning process that carries a group from real experience to a plan of their own making.
